Meet your friendly neighborhood bookkeepers

Meet your friendly neighborhood bookkeepers

When I woke up this morning and set my intention to write our very first blog post, I thought I’d write something very bookkeeping-y and professional like “How To Use The Opening Balance Equity Account When Setting Up Your Chart Of Accounts To Ensure Proper Reconciliation”.

Then I thought…nah. I am overflowing with that kind of titillating knowledge, don’t get me wrong, but that’s just no place to begin one’s inaugural post.

So instead I’m going to tell you a little bit about who we are and why we started this company. We’ll tackle the opening balance equity post another time.

Bitty and I have known each other since we were kids and we’ve been friends for a long time. We’re also neighbors in a delightful little beach town in sunny San Diego. We love accounting (really, we do. It’s fun for us) and we love working with our amazing clients.

I’ll start with Bitty’s bio because she’s more fun to write about.

Elizabeth Karube

Elizabeth is affectionately known as Bitty to her friends. Her first job was as a bookkeeper and since then, she’s honed her mad accounting skills in multiple industries; non-profit, retail, service companies, and homeowners association services. She’s been a bookkeeper, accounting assistant, accounting specialist, manager of accounting, and now proud co-founder of Rigits.

Bitty never backs away from an accounting challenge — and we’ve seen some big ones! She works fast while never sacrificing accuracy. The job isn’t done for Bitty until the very last cent is reconciled. She is a credit to our noble profession!

Bitty was born in Buena Vista, Argentina and is the second youngest of 11 (yes, 11) brothers and sisters. She has has 19 nieces and nephews. Needless to say, family gatherings are very lively affairs. She is a devote of the beach and all things beach related: beach volleyball, beach runs, beach walks, beach swimming, and beach naps. She loves cooking with her husband, watching romantic comedies, eating popcorn, doing yoga, and reaching her daily step goal.

Julia Kelly

I accidentally discovered my love of accounting after two years of running my own business which I had started before college; I realized that my favorite part of running the business was keeping the finances and books in order. So I switched my major to accounting in my sophomore year and it’s been a love affair with numbers ever since.

After years of helping friends and family organize their own business finances, I co-founded Rigits in order to bring my love of tidy books and pristine financial statements to as many business owners as possible.

I was born in New Delhi, India. Thanks to my dad’s prodigious love of cross-country road trips, as a kid I visited every national park and every grand monument in the United States (that’s only a slight exaggeration). I wanted to be a caricature artist when I grew up and I did it — it’s how I supported myself through college. I love reading, eating carne asada fries, sculpting, drawing, and re-watching The Big Lebowski every couple of months.

So that’s us! We’ll be updating this blog a couple times a month so check back soon.

Peace, love, and tidy books.
